Food Allergy Disclaimer

Washington University Dining Services makes every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause allergic reactions for those with food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances. All cafes, dining halls, and kitchens make careful effort to safely prepare, label, and serve foods to support and communicate with our students, faculty, and guests. Allergy awareness and training are regular topics at dining staff meetings, and our foodservice staff have been educated on the severity of food allergies. In addition, we label items with possible allergen containing ingredients.  Food allergy information is available in each of our café locations and online at menus.wustl.edu. Our online menus and those in our cafes are clearly marked with icons indicating when food allergens are present and also identify items that may contain a potential allergen. We also identify the top nine 9 allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nut, peanut, wheat, soybean, gluten. We also place icons on items that are vegetarian, vegan, kosher, halal or meet bear balance program guidelines.

Please be aware that there is always a risk of cross contact, and a possibility that manufacturers of the commercial foods we use could change formulation at any time, without notice. Those with food allergies need to be aware of this risk. Washington University Dining Services does not assume liability for adverse reactions to foods consumed or items one may come in contact with while eating in our cafes.

Our students’ safety and dining experience is of primary importance, so we provide recipe ingredient information, recipe preparation, and product label information directly to the student so they may make a decision to consume a menu item or not. If you need information about a specific item, please inquire with a location specific manager or executive chef.

Students with food allergies or special dietary needs are encouraged to contact our university dietitian, Rebecca Miller (miller.rebecca@wustl.edu), Assistant Director of Nutrition & Dietary Wellness. Along with our chefs, she will help you dine safely & comfortably around campus.
